India Reduced Oil Imports from Russia by 40% in January 2026

Supply volumes have dropped to their lowest level since June 2022, reaching 859,000 barrels per day (3.68 million tonnes), according to a review by the international pricing agency Argus, which has been accessed by RBC. The decline in deliveries to India can partly be attributed to increased pressure from the United States. New Delhi is eager to reduce its oil imports from Russia in order to secure a trade agreement with Washington. Simultaneously, India is diversifying its raw material purchases and has resumed buying Venezuelan oil after a prolonged hiatus.
